Authentic Sivas Kangal Dogs in the United States
Welcome to our 70-acre livestock farm in Frederick County, Maryland. Deeply rooted in our Sivas, Turkey heritage, we are proud to operate the largest authentic Kangal breeding program in North America. For hundreds of years, our ancestors lived alongside these majestic animals, entrusting them with their lives and livestock. Today, we continue that legacy by raising purebred guardian dogs that are fiercely loyal, highly capable, and ready to work.

A distant relative of one of our dogs, in Kangal, Sivas, Turkey, and owned by our friend Abdurrahman Şişman—a highly respected Sivas Kangal breeder based in Kangal, Sivas, Turkey.

Pictured here is one of the Sivas Kangal dogs we bred in the United States. After many years and several generations, their lineage remains uncompromised. This is what defines true purebred Sivas Kangal dogs.
History and Characteristics of the Breed
The Kangal is a legendary working breed originating from the Sivas Province of Turkey. Documented as far back as the Babylonians and praised in the 17th-century travelogues of Evliya Çelebi, these dogs served as historical war and hunting companions. Historians believe the founders of the Ottoman Empire introduced them to Anatolia, later influencing many European shepherd breeds. They are uniquely famous for their ability to fend off wolves, earning immense prestige for the farmers who rely on them. Despite centuries of harsh conditions, the breed has preserved its distinct genetic traits and absolute purity due to its natural reluctance to mate with other breeds.

We are deeply grateful to Abdurrahman Şişman, Zeki Öztürk, and our other generous friends for providing us with their finest Sivas Kangal dogs, allowing us to become the largest and reputable Sivas Kangal breeder in North America.

Proven Predator Protection in Frederick County
Our farm sits in eastern Frederick County, Maryland, where our land is naturally traversed by the Monocacy River. This beautiful, wooded riverfront environment provides an ideal habitat for large regional predators, including coyotes and black bears.
While apex predators pose a constant threat to local livestock, we have remarkably experienced zero safety incidents on our property over the years. The necessity of our working pack is underscored by real local threats: in May 2022, a neighboring farm tragically lost four calves to a single 400-pound black bear. Our dogs ensure our property never faces the same fate.
As dedicated breeders of original Turkish bloodlines, we provide these magnificent guardian animals to property owners and farmers seeking definitive protection for their livestock, acreage, and families.

Kangal dogs are natural born Shepard. Their instincts always lead them and they don’t need extra training for guarding livestock. Kangal dogs are very intelligent; however they are not your ordinary guard dogs. Training could be challenging and might not respond well to common training methods. They might only obey your commands when they want to.
