Purebred Sivas Kangal Breeder
We are a 70-acre farm located in Frederick County, Maryland. We breed purebred Sivas Kangal dogs, which are not just for breeding, but also serve as working dogs to protect our livestock from predators. Our affinity for Kangal dogs stems from our Sivas, Turkey heritage, with a lineage going back hundreds of years. We have lived alongside these dogs, heard incredible stories about them from our elders, and entrusted our livestock to their care. The Kangals have worked tirelessly to protect us and our livestock, even at the cost of their own lives.
The story did not end in Sivas, Turkey. After living in the United States for decades, I grew weary of the crowded city life and decided to purchase a farm, where I began breeding sheep. However, something was still missing - the "Sivas Kangal dogs." Our Kangals were imported directly from the towns of Kangal, Gürün, and Dendil-Gemerek in Sivas, sourced from highly reputable breeders. Currently, we have 21 purebred Sivas Kangal dogs for breeding, making us the largest Kangal breeder in the United States.
We sell our purebred Kangal puppies nationwide, as well as internationally. We can arrange international transportation through IPATA, with the cost covered by the buyer.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our website.

The Kangal dog is a unique and remarkable breed found primarily in Turkey. Kangal dogs have earned a well-deserved reputation for their exceptional qualities. Kangals are renowned for their bravery, speed, and agility. They are also remarkably gentle and protective towards women and children, while remaining highly vigilant against potential threats. Kangal dogs are widely regarded as intelligent, foresighted, and deeply loyal to their owners. When scolded by their owners, they display a guilty, submissive posture, making direct eye contact and awaiting forgiveness. Kangal dogs express a wide range of emotions not just through moods and body language, but also through their diverse vocalizations
Kangal Dogs are fiercely loyal, as Kangal owners attest. These dogs have been known to wait for days without food or water, guarding over sheep that have strayed or been left behind in the mountains.
Farmers who own Kangal dogs take great pride in the ability of their dogs to fend off and kill wolves. Owning a dog capable of strangling and defeating wolves is a significant source of prestige and honor for these farmers.
Despite centuries of neglect, the Kangal dog did not compromise its distinct racial traits or exceptional mental capabilities. It is deeply attached to its noble lineage and refuses to mate with other carnivore breeds, even in the wild. In 1975, Kangal dogs were trained for military purposes and demonstrated far greater aptitude than canine species that had been utilized for such roles for generations.
A good Kangal dog should possess the following essential qualities:
Kangal dogs are uniquely suited to embody all of these vital characteristics at the highest levels. It is this comprehensive set of traits that makes the Kangal so valuable and deserving of its esteemed status among the world's working dog breeds.
Kangal Dog Breed Characteristics:
The Kangal dog is an ancient breed that has guarded Anatolian shepherds' flocks for centuries, protecting them from malicious people and wild animals. This breed's origins can be traced back to the time of the Babylonians. These versatile dogs were employed not only as war dogs but also for hunting horses and lions.
The Kangal dog is believed to originate from Kangal District in Sivas Province. However, pure-blooded Kangal dogs can also be found in other regions of Turkey, such as Yozgat, Kayseri, Çorum, Tokat, Erzurum, and Erzincan. Additionally, there are various dog breeds and hybrids throughout Turkey that are known by names like Karakaya and Kızılkaya, but do not carry the official designation of "Turkish shepherd dog." That said, the purest Kangal Shepherd Dogs are most likely to be found in Sivas, particularly in the Kangal District.
In his 17th-century Travelogue, Evliya Çelebi described these dogs as strong as lions. It is believed the founders of the Ottoman Empire introduced this breed to Anatolia, and as the empire expanded into Europe, most European Shepherd Dog breeds descended from this original stock.
Historical records from the Ottoman Empire era reference the Kangal dog breed and its pedigree breeding practices.
Kangal dogs have endured for centuries, maintaining their breed characteristics. This is attributed to their role as the most reliable companion for sheep farmers and their unique ability to fend off wolves - making them the only dog breed worldwide with this capability. Kangal dogs willingly undertake their duties in the harshest climatic and working conditions, even at the cost of their own lives. Additionally, the simple and economical care requirements of Kangal dogs have enabled the continuation of the breed.
As a native of Sivas, Turkey, I am very proud to be a purebred Kangal breeder and to operate the largest Kangal breeding program in the USA.

Our farm, situated in eastern Frederick County, Maryland, is traversed by the Monocacy River. The river and surrounding wooded areas provide an ideal habitat for predators such as coyotes and black bears. Remarkably, we have had zero incidents on our farm over the years. However, in May 2022, a neighboring farm lost 4 calves to a 400-pound black bear.
As original Sivas Kangal dog breeders, we offer these magnificent guardian dogs to people seeking protection for their livestock and properties. For more details on Kangal dogs and Kangal puppies for sale, please give us a call.
